Ephesians 4

NET

14 So we are no longer to be children, tossed back and forth by waves and carried about by every wind of teaching by the trickery of people who craftily carry out their deceitful schemes.

Darby

14 inD8631 order that we may be no longer babes, tossed and carried about by every wind of *that* teaching [which is] in the sleight of men, in unprincipled cunning with a view to systematized error;

Darby Bible Notes

in - The form of the Greek phrase makes it somewhat difficult to translate. I do not think that the phrase 'in the sleight of,' &c., is in connection with 'tossed and carried about,' but, in sense, with 'that teaching.' The cheating, as of dice-players, and still more methodic craft, characterized the teaching. 'In the sleight of men' marks the power and character of the teaching. What I have given is literal, and is sufficiently clear. 'that' is emphatic.

KJV

14 That we [henceforth] be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, [and] cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
