58 As you are going with your accuser before the magistrate, make an effort to settle with him on the way, so that he will not drag you before the judge, and the judge hand you over to the officer, and the officer throw you into prison.
58 ForD7337 as thou goest with thine adverse party before a magistrate, strive in the way to be reconciled with him, lestD7338 he drag thee away to the judge, and the judge shall deliver thee to the officer, and the officer cast thee into prison.
For - The 'For' here is the practical conclusion the Lord draws as to the need of Israel's reconciling itself with God. 'Hearing what I say, that is what you have to do.' lest - See Notes, Matt. 5.25 and Mark 4.12.
58 “When thou goest with thine adversary to the magistrate,” [as thou art] “in the way, give diligence that thou mayest be delivered from him; lest he hale thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and the officer cast thee into prison.”
