1 Timothy 1

NET

16 But here is why I was treated with mercy: so that in me as the worst, Christ Jesus could demonstrate his utmost patience, as an example for those who are going to believe in him for eternal life.

Darby

16 But for this reason mercy was shewn me, that in me, [the] first, Jesus Christ might display the whole long-suffering, for a delineation ofD8842 those about to believe on him to life eternal.

Darby Bible Notes

of - As 'outline,' 2Tim. 1.13. It is a mistake to confine delineation to long-suffering, and so make 'of' mean 'for.' 'for those,' &c. Paul was a delineation of Christ's ways in their case, even, I doubt not, in the case of the rebellious Jews hereafter. the whole long-suffering was in Paul's case, so as to picture every case. In those who companied with Christ when alive this was not so, though the grace was really the same; but there was not the same showing forth of it.

KJV

16 Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.
