11 for the life of every living thing is in the blood. So I myself have assigned it to you on the altar to make atonement for your lives, for the blood makes atonement by means of the life.
11 for the soulD853 of the flesh is in the blood; and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement forD854 your soulD855s, for it is the blood that maketh atonement for the soul.
soul - Or 'life;' 'life' and 'soul' are the same word everywhere here. for - Lit. 'in souls.' see Note, ch. 6.30. soul - Or 'that maketh atonement by the soul (or life).'
11 For the life of the flesh [is] in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it [is] the blood [that] maketh an atonement for the soul.
